Where: Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, Batavia, Illinois

Two entrances: Wilson Road at Kirk Road (west entrance) and Batavia Road at Route 59 (east entrance).  Note: The Pine Street and Kirk Road entrance will be closed to vehicle traffic on the day of the event.

All audiences are welcome to join us at this Open House. ADA parking and restrooms will be available, and the majority of the event will be accessible to wheelchair users. ASL interpretation will be available upon request by contacting Mario Lucero at (630) 840-4630 or mlucero@fnal.gov.

Parking: Visitors will park in the welcome area, which is a grassy, open field.  All visitors driving cars, trucks and motorcycles will be directed to this area.  No cars, trucks or motorcycles will be allowed to drive to other locations on the site.

ADA parking: Visitors with placards who require accessible parking will be directed to the accessible parking area.

Bicycle policy:  Visitors are invited to ride their bicycles to the site at the Pine Street (west entrance) and Batavia Road (east entrance).  Bicycle racks will be available close to the Lederman Science Center (west entrance) and at the welcome area (east entrance).   Cyclists will be directed to park in either of these areas.  Bike riding across the site will not be allowed on the day of the event.

Rain or shine: This event will take place regardless of the weather.  Please dress for the weather conditions on the day of the event.

Food and beverage service: Food and beverage will be available for purchase at the event. Vegetarian and gluten-free options will be available.

Tours and attractions: When you arrive at Fermilab, you will receive a program of events brochure that will help you plan your day.  See the Fermilab website at 50.fnal.gov/openhouse for more details about the attractions, tours, visits, presentations and shows that will take place at the open house.  The Fermilab site is 6,800 acres, so plan to allow 30 minutes of transportation time to get from one tour or attraction to another.

For the safety of all visitors: Fermilab recommends that visitors wear flat or low-heel, closed toe shoes. Parents and guardians must supervise children to ensure safety.  Weapons, including toy weapons, will not be allowed on the Fermilab site. No smoking inside buildings.  No grills or open flames on site. No pets will be allowed on site on the day of the event.

Fermilab Security encourages attendees not to bring bags unless necessary. If you must bring a bag, please refer to the following important rules.

Bag Inspection

All bags, purses and containers are subject to inspection prior to entry. Each entry and parking area will have designated bag check lines for all guests carrying items.  All other guests can use the express lines. All guests entering Fermilab are subject to visual inspection and bag check conducted by a Fermilab Security representative.

Prohibited Items

Fermilab is a Department of Energy (DOE) site, a federal site, and therefore the following items are illegal or prohibited:

  • Firearms/knives
  • Explosives
  • Incendiary devices
  • Ammunition
  • Alcohol
  • Narcotics
  • Drones

Local law enforcement agencies will assist if any of the prohibited items are found.
